CIC SUMMARY FROM FRIDAY'S MEETING. Dan Wingard was our guest speaker thst spoke to our Denver group on Friday morning at Maggiano's. Dan played at Nebraska and Dewey' s father . He spoke with pictures and film about playing at Nebraska, his son's recruitment at the high school level and Andrew playing at UW.
The biggest take away is that several of the defensive players were recently visiting Dewey here in Colorado and just the size differences from last year are remarkable. The difference is sizable and Dan feels that Missouri and Washington State will be in for a long afternoon when facing this defense. This group is confident, older and bigger. It is also deeper and the new players coming in are great additions.
The philosophy and recruiting of Coach Bohl and the development of players is truly standing out. In many ways, #28 is a mirror of Josh Allen. Dewey was the Colorado Gatorade player of the year and while the winner the year before had dozens of D-1 offers, Andrew had a total on one! He had a PWO from Washington even though he won the 30 yard dash race of all players at the Washington camp with over 300 participants and finished #2 at the CU camp. His Dad, while a bit chagrined by the process, also could see that here was a kid that was barely 6' and 170 lbs was being lost in the shuffle. The Colorado player of the year the year before had over 25 D-1 offers, but yet Dewey had only the UW offer. Coach Bohl at one of the games he scouted pointed out that in watching Andrew that he had the team's heartbeat and carried his HS team on his back. Sounds similar.
This is where UW will make it. It is in the evaluation of players like Dewey, Carl Granderson, Yoyo, Crall Cryder and others that the current staff is causing the corner to turn. Certainly he knows his son and he knows football, but his takeaway about the skinny kid from California that is now Carl Granderson will be sight to behold and he is a NFL ready player. Kids that are here do have that chip on their shoulder.
The HAPC in his opinion is more than just window dressing as some critics have downplayed facilities. Dan felt this was a game changing improvement at UW with the results still not showing and will not for a few years till these HAPC classes start coming thru it.
We are trying to see if Dan can get to a CIC event up in Northern Colorado at Johnson's Corner. The crowd down here in Denver this morning thoroughly enjoyed the 60 minute plus presentation..it was done very well. I started to take notes, but the presentation was so mesmerizing that I just took it all in and I now do this review only by memory.
Misc Matters: The Rockies game for UW is at 2300 tickets and they want to push past the 2500 number for the August 11 game. The HAPC tour is Thursday, August 2, 2018 and we will be meeting at the north end-zone at 9:45 a.m. If you want to tour the facility with us please contact
[email protected] to get on the tour list we currently have a group of 25 coming up from Colorado, but absolutely all are welcome and just contact Mike. There is also talk of call in show for fans to talk about Cowboy sports, but that is still being formulated and something might come out this fall.
