Funny.....Oklahoma State cowboys. He is much more of a match for Oklahoma State than he is Wyoming as he is an option style QB and that is what Okie State runs.

I doubt that we get Wilton Speight from Michigan either as the latest that I read showed him going to the University of Virginia most likely. He is originally from Richmond, Virginia which is about 60 miles away from Charlottesville.

Just from my take on Bohl and his staff he likes competition at all positions. Is there enough competition taking place at the QB position? My gut tells me no, that Bohl would like to add someone with some real game experience to the position besides Smith. You got Nick Smith, Tyler Vander Waal and Sean Chambers as the three scholarship guys battling it out next season, and then several walk-ons, none of which appear to be much of a real challenge to the scholarship guys. I was looking at a report the other day of the Top 20 grad transfers and it didn't appear that any of them were headed to Laramie. So where would additional competition come from? JC, maybe, but who knows? I will say this for Bohl and his staff they are really good at turning up undiscovered talent especially at the QB position. So I wouldn't count things out from happening, but right now it doesn't appear that a new scholarship guy is in the works.

I hate to say it, but we’re in real trouble if Nick Smith wins that battle.

From the looks of Poke's 2018 QB situation, it looks like Chryst wouldn't help. More like needing Christ.

I'll give him the benefit of doubt until he proves otherwise. That is if he ends up the starting QB.

So the few starts he’s had weren’t proof enough for you? They were for me!!

It's already March, Vigen will be the OC in the fall, barring something unusual happening. If there was going to be a change, it would have been made by now.

Watching us lose the SJSU game this past year with whatever enormous amount of 3 and outs we ended up having in that game was more than enough proof for me.

The two starts? I think he can be better if he is given more reps duirng the year with the first team. But again, I don't think he will be the starter. If he is, I'm not calling the season yet.

You’re forgetting that Smith also had two starts as a redshirt freshman in 2015. In those two games he also averaged 80.4 ypg. For me, Smith just doesn’t have the “it” factor to be a productive FBS QB. I’ve seen more than enough to convince me of that.

If Nick Smith is our QB we’re looking at the real possibility of starting off 1-6. Our first 7 games are rough. The NMSU game is a huge opener. That will not be an easy game for the Pokes regardless of who is playing QB. Then we have our two P5 games, Wofford, Boise and @Hawaii, @Fresno. Those are some difficult games. It’s not unconceviable that we will be underdogs in our first 6 FBS games.

Unless there is a clear separation through spring and fall Nick Smith is going to start the opener. I believe Vanderbilt Waal gets the job some point during the season though.

Yes, I've said multiple times that there is no way Nick Smith will be the starting QB going into next season. He is a competitor and I like that but lacks FBS talent. The team would be MUCH MUCH better off moving Conway to QB and running an option/wildcat offense if Smith were to be the only option. If we don't add a QB, I expect the depth chart to be: (1 and 2) Vander Waal and Chambers; (3) Smith.

I'm a bit disappointed that we haven't heard anything about a potential transfer QB yet.

I really like Smith, but flush next season if he is the starter.

The fresno game told me everything I needed to know (taking multiple sacks along the sideline by trotting out of bounds THROW IT AWAY, and taking a game-ending sack at our own 20 THOW THE BALL FOR THE LOVE)
