How much $$ has Brian Hill made to this point?

Worst-case scenario, suppose he completely washes out at this point.. how much did his jump make him? I realize that he might have had the same result after staying another year, but, since I'm more interested in Wyoming Cowboy Football that Brian Hill (or Josh Allen) football, I'm gonna put MY interests first and ask the question.

Not much, sad to say. His signing bonus was $269,000. So he made that, plus his base guarantee of $122,000. I think, but don't know, that the base guarantee is paid out over the 17 weeks of the season.

So, as of today he's probably made about $300,000 over the course of his NFL career to this point, including his bonus. By the end of this year he will earn something in the neighborhood of $400,000 counting his guaranteed base and his bonus. Minus 6% for Georgia income tax ($24,000). Minus another $7,000 for Atlanta income tax. Minus extra state income taxes for any away games in income tax states that Atlanta plays (probably another $10,000). Minus about 35% to Uncle Sam ($140,000). Minus another 3% to his agent off the top ($12,000). Minus 25% from his bonus for the federal supplemental rate (about $54,000).

So, before he's bought a beer or a house or a car, he'll probably cash something in the neighborhood of $152,000 this year.

So he should cancel the Ferrari order, then?

Still, if he's reasonable in his living he'll have some decent saving he could use for future school, whatever.

On the practice squad now, where he'll earn a minimum of $7,200 per week.

well that's hardly life-changing money. Hope he catches on with a team and stays on a roster for a few years

Not what most people imagine when they join the NFL, but not too shabby. Even on the practice squad you make a hundred grand and you don't need to suit up or travel. Having said that, he made the jump to play. Atlanta was not a good place for him to land, but hopefully next year he'll be off the practice squad and land on someone's full time roster. The more players we have in the NFL the better it is for us with recruting, so GO BRIAN !

I wonder how much more he would have made as a senior with 300 more carries and a 3.0 ypc behind this line.

I think the way it works is he doesn't make an additional salary for the practice squad, he just gets his guaranteed contract while sitting on a practice squad spot.

Life comes at you fast, I guess.

I was thinking this as well. We see how it turned out for josh. Maybe we’re a little too hard on early leavers

Agree! It wouldn't be better this year and if you are an undergrad and are offered 500k gross for 1 year of work with potential for more and you don't take regardless of degree status, UW education is failing.

Nothing but best wishes for Mr. Hill!!

He absolutely made the right decision.

TheCup is overstating the taxes but that is besides the point. Brian Hill's effective tax rate is not that high.

He is making more than 99 percent of college graduates and RBs only have so many years/carries in the NFL. Best of luck to him! He can always finish his college degree should he choose to do so.

Had he stayed another year, he risked injury and not being drafted at all.

He definitely made the right decision. He is still making money, and a heck of a lot more than most college kids do out of school. His stock was not going to rise much and he was going to risk injury.

Do the Pokes need him and wish he was still in Laramie? Obviously, but that doesn't mean anything when talking about your own future. The kid made the right call

Being on a practice squad is not a bad thing. He's getting paid solid money while not getting quite the same wear and tear as he would on either Wyoming or the actual pro squad. Meanwhile, he's also being coached in the actual pros and gaining experience that'll be relevant to his professional future.

That said, I'm wondering what he would've done for us this season. Stanford's running game last night without their star runner reminded me a LOT of our current situation. They normally get 200 yards of rushing per game, but last night they managed only 81 yards on 27 carries, and it honestly looked terrible. There were holes, but they closed before their backup runner could hit them. Similar to Wyoming, they also run up the middle a LOT.

I mean, I know Bryce Love is a 1 in a Million type of runner, but still... him and Scarlett are probably comparable to Hill and [Insert current Wyoming runningback here].

Definitely the right decision. Marshall Faulk would look bad in this offense.
