Hi yall,

I'm a WSU Wildcat and recent grad. Lived my whole life in the Ogden ( hour from Evanston) area where WSU is located and we've only won the conf title once in my life and it was last season. Before that it was quite a while before I was born.

Who is Weber?

Historically we are happy to go .500. We are in a very competitive conference (Big Sky) in FCS football. Last season Coach Mac, former Utah coach as you may know did some things that have never happened in our school's history - beat some of the traditional powers and make the playoffs. We still have many of last season's key players so we, the fans, are going to enjoy every minute of 2009 because you never know how long it will last. Our good news is Mac signed a 4+1 deal last season. He's only 69!! LOL

We have 3 titles since our conf started in 1963. We have had 10 win seasons twice - 1987, 2008. So in football we average a title every 15 yrs and in basketball which we are traditionally known for we win a title about every 2.5 yrs.

The Wildcats play at Stewart Stadium which was built in 1966 and its current capacity is 17,500.

WSU's all-time record is 244-258-3

Classifications
1962-1972: NCAA College Division - Small College
1973-1977: NCAA Division II
1978-2006: NCAA Division I-AA
2007-Current: NCAA Division I FCS - Formerly I-AA

Record vs BYU & Utah
Utah:
1978: L 30-7
1984: L 52-7
2008: L 37-21

BYU:
1973: L 45-14
1979: L 48-3

The highest WSU has ever been ranked in the FCS Top 25 was No. 7 at the end of last season which is also their preseason '09 ranking:

2009 Accolades
*WSU picked 7th nationally in FCSNow.com Preseason Top 25
*WSU, most preseason all-america selections in the nation
*WSU, most preseason all-conference selections in Big Sky
*WSU picked 2nd in Big Sky Coaches & Media Polls (Montana picked 1st - 11 straight conf titles)
*Cam Higgins & Trevyn Smith - Walter Payton Award candidates - you could call this the Heisman of FCS

Head Coach - Ron McBride
Big Sky Record: 18-14 (60%)
Overall WSU Record: 25-22 (55%)
Overall Coaching Record: 113-85 (57%)

Alma Mater: San Jose State - 1962
Coaching Experience: 44 years
Head Coaching Experience: 17 years

Coach Mac's 4th season as head coach of Weber State's football team was the 2008 season. The Wildcats finished 10-4 and won the Big Sky Championship. WSU also made its 2nd ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Playoff Quarterfinals.

McBride has been in the coaching profession for over 40 years, he was the head coach at the University of Utah for 13 years (1990-2002). He is from Los Angeles, California. He graduated from San Jose State and was a stand-out player for the Spartans from 1959-62 and served as team captain his senior year. He later played professionally with the San Jose Apaches of the USA League.

The important part of WSU playing at Wyo and CSU which many of us real fans believe is confidence for our season. Even if we lose both games...or at least hoping they will be "games" - is so they won't be intimidated in any FCS level games.

I believe this is what happened last season starting out playing Utah and Hawaii. The conference games were nothing like those opponents and where WSU was able to do some good things against both of those schools it did build confidence.

Also we were fortunate enough to make it through the season with no major injuries as a whole.

The Hawaii game we were up 17-7 which was very shocking to watch. WSU lost the game 36-17 playing well in 3 quarters but lost complete control in the 3rd. Overall it was a very exciting game and I wouldn't be mad if we had a game like that in Wyo since I will be in attendance.

The Utah game, also exciting, we were down 24-7 at the half but at the time Utah was I think 17th in the nation. We finished the game 37-21. You can say Utah called off the dogs since we scored 2 TD's in the late 4th but Utah had that starters in til half way through the 4th. I was at the game. I believe the 10th string of Utah should have no excuse letting WSU score in that game.

WSU's Higgins and Oregon St's QB were the only QB's to pass for 300 yds against Utah's D last yr.

We have heard about Wyo's D specifically your 2 Dlineman and your 2 CB's that are very good. We have not said or do not expect to be lighting them up. We do hope we can do some good things in the game though. Appalachian St did beat Michigan so if you believe anything can happen why not be up for Wyo?

We don't know for sure what to expect from our D. We have many new starters but we think they could be good. Other schools in our league are skeptical of our D.

WSU fans, the general consensus is that if our O can score on your D a few times and keep TO's low and our D can hang in the game against your O we might be able to get it close.

Not sure how many of our fans our coming to the game being the holiday weekend but my guess is somewhere between a few hundred to up to 1,000.

We have a bus of students coming, most likely a bunch of players families and some die hards. Our Wildcat Club decided to take a bus trip the week after for CSU because of the holiday - weak!

Any advice for our trip to Wyo for those staying the night? Restaurants, etc...

Unfortunately for those on the bus it will be brief. Leaving early AM straight to game then heading home right after. Trying to make it cheap for students.

PS: Please don't confuse us with BYU...or call us BYU Lite as I have seen on another thread on this board. That is the ultimate dis to be compared or thought of being anything remotely like those Provo Idiots. WSU fans don't go anywhere near that county BYU resides in. I personally have only been there once in 13 yrs...a streak I'm proud of! Luckily we are 90 miles away.

Weber and Wyo have one big thing in common...our love of our hatred of BYU!

Last year at the NIT at San Diego State we got along very well with the SDSU students once someone brought up BYU! lol Instead of cheese in the pics after the game it was "BYU Sucks" the group yelled.

I absolutely love that statement! LMAO :thumb:

You can also add USU, Utah, UVU, SUU, Dixie to that list!!!! Everyone in this state hates the whY, i'm not sure it it's the school though. I have nothing against the whY, just their fans!

They just built a couple of new hotels right off of Grand Ave (same street the stadium is on). Give these guys a call and see if they offer discount rates for traveling fans:

Hilton Garden Inn (307) 745-5500
Comfort Inn (307) 721-8856
Hampton Inn (307) 742-0125

There's also a Holiday Inn on 3rd St., but it's not nearly as close to the stadium as the other 3. Their number is (877) 863-4780.

Looking forward to seeing you guys here to cheer on your team! 19 days and counting...

This statement cracks me up lol . I would think anytime any opponent is playing someone this would be the criteria they were looking for to have a chance at winning the game .

Welcome to the board weberwildcat . :D Hope you have fun coming up to the game !

I do not believe Dave Christiansen will take Weber lightly with it being his first game as a D1A head coach and wanting to look as good as he can getting things started up . If he lost his first game at home to a FCS opponent it would not look very good , that by no means guaranties Wyoming is going to win this game but what it does mean is that he will have Wyoming ready to play so any thoughts of the Weber faithful thinking Wyoming will be looking past the Wildcats to Texas you can forget about .

If Weber can score consistently on our defense then you will definitely have a chance in the game . I know some Weber fans think because you faced Utah last year that this Wyoming defense should be easy for your offense to score on and we know about your offenses stars that have pro scouts looking at them but Wyoming sees that type of talent from different positions week in and week out in the MWC make no mistake about it Wyoming's defense is just about every bit as good as Utah's defense was . Wyoming's defense finished 3rd in the conference last year behind TCU and Utah and we actually outgained Utah when we played them with 3 of their scores coming from our offense turning it over and Utah returning it for scores and the third one was from a special teams score by Utah . I am by no means saying Wyoming was even close to the team Utah was last year , well not even close offensively anyways .
Wyoming's problem under Joe Glenn was that our offense would turn the ball over and over again putting our defense in terrible positions and leaving our defense on the field all day wearing them down . Wyoming was next to last in the country last year in turnovers at -22 only Washington State was worse . Our special teams was atrocious as well . Wyoming has been bad solely because of offense and special teams the last couple years not because of the defense . If the offense can get just a few more first downs and not turn the ball over as much it will make our defense that much better as well . Thats a big "if" and the offense will have to show me something against another opponent before I can make many predictions .

How bad was our offense last year ? Well 4 games in a row we had our first series on offense get picked off or had a fumbled that got returned for a touchdown , no joke 4 games in a row . If you could have put odds in Vegas of that happening and bet it you would be a millionaire right now . lol Against Air Force our offense turned it over 5 times to their 1 . Against BYU our offense turned it over 6 times to their 0 .Our offense 5 turnovers and Bowling Green only 1 , Our offense 3 New Mexico 0, Our offense 5 Utah 0, Our offense 3 UNLV 0 , Our Offense 2 TCU 0 . Yeah Wyoming's Offense sucked .

Wyoming has consistently been a very good defensive team the last few years as in 2006 they finished ranked 9th in the nation in total defense in 2007 we finished ranked 26th last year we finished 38th and we have 8 starters returning from that defense and I would venture to say this years defense is most likely the most talented and deepest defense we have had even more so than the 2006 defense that finished ranked 9th in the country .
If Weber wins this game it will because Wyoming hasn't corrected the turnover problem from the last few years . Wyoming needs to respect Weber just like any other opponent on the schedule or they can be beat . I hope you enjoy your time in Laramie and good luck this season except against us :D .

The Holiday Inn is actually on 30th & Grand, walking distance easliy...307-721-9000.

I remember when there were no Weber State fans on any big sky message boards at all, now they're everywhere! Where did you people come from? ;)

Sorry to be rude, but this is our easy start of the season home game. Even at our very worst (1999-2001), we were still able to defeat the eventual D1AA champion. So come on up to Laramie, cheer loudly through the first quarter, and don't go away too upset when your team gets smacked.

For the record, Wyoming fans dislike Utards of all varieties....BYU, Utah, Utah State, Weber State, Boise St (I know, but they act like Utards).

Chiou!

LOOOOOL!!!

Well I guess Boise is only a decade removed from the Big Sky...

As long as you don't say anything good about BYU football/basketball I'll like you!

Sorry to say this, but as a Utard Fan put Wyoming in a league with Utah, whY, USU WSU and BSU you'll probably finish last. Well maybe you beat State, but now that Gary Anderson is running that program good luck.
