NAFL PLAYOFF SEEDINGS; NASHVILLE STORM (10-0) IS THE #1 SEED IN THE NAFL SOUTH AND #2 SEED NATIONALLY- NASHVILLE STORM HAVE HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE THROUGHOUT NAFL PLAYOFFS

The Nashville Storm played the month of September with 3 team goals; 1- Finish the first undefeated regular season in Nashville Storm history; 2- Finish the regular season as the #1 seed in the NAFL South playoffs, and; 3- Gain one of the top 2 positions in the NAFL National Power Rankings, ensuring that if the Storm get that far (South Championship), the Storm would host one of the NAFL’s 2 “Final Four”, or semifinal games on November 1.

The verdict is in; MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ON ALL 3 GOALS.

Goal #3 was the goal most in doubt last weekend, as the Central Penn Piranha’s 52-6 victory over the Lancaster Lightning leapfogged them ahead of the Storm in the power rankings. The game that would decide the Storm’s fate was taking place in Los Angeles, CA between 2 undefeated teams, the Inglewood Blackhawks and the Orange County Jaguars. If the Blackhawks had won the game, their “point differential” for the season would have leapfrogged THEM ahead of the Storm, knocking the Storm down to #3 in the Power Rankings. However, the Blackhawks DIDN’T WIN; the Jaguars defeated the Blackhawks 32-27 to knock the Blackhawks from the unbeaten ranks.

Bottom line; EVERY NASHVILLE STORM 2008 PLAYOFF GAME WILL BE PLAYED IN NASHVILLE AT STRATFORD HIGH SCHOOL. Watch this site and the Nashville Storm MySpace Site at http://www.myspace.com/nashvillestormfootball for the Nashville Storm’s playoff schedule, and come out and support YOUR team as we try to bring a National Championship to Nashville, TN.

The Undefeated, Nationally-Ranked Nashville Storm Open The NAFL Playoffs Against The Asheville Grizzlies. There’s some serious animosity on both sides in this matchup. Don’t miss it.

THE TEAMS- The undefeated (10-0), nationally-ranked Nashville Storm (NASHVILLE STORM FOOTBALL OFFICIAL WEBSITE) open the NAFL playoffs against the 6-4 Asheville (NC) Grizzlies, who have appeared in the last 2 NAFL South Championship games. These two teams last met in the 2006 NAFL South Championship game, which the Nashville Storm won 10-7.

THE STAKES- The most important stake in this game is obvious; the winner of this game advances to the 2nd round of the NAFL playoffs, while the 2008 season ends for the loser.

However, the Nashville Storm-Asheville Grizzlie rivalry is much more heated than the average football rivalry. The Storm and Grizzlies met on the field at least twice in the Nashville Storm’s first 5 seasons, and have met 13 times overall; THE NASHVILLE STORM HAVE WON ALL 13 GAMES.

This has caused consternation in Asheville; the Grizzlies have been in existence since the 1980’s, and are one of the winningest Minor League football programs in history, and their Owner/Head Coach, Phil Lytle, is one of Minor League Football’s all-time winningest coaches, and is the NAFL South Commissioner. In 2007, Coach Lytle, frustrated by his teams’ record against the Nashville Storm, arranged to have the Nashville Storm-Asheville Grizzlie home-and-home regular season series discontinued. As a result, the two teams have not played since the 2006 NAFL South Championship Game.
