We would like to introduce a new feature here at WyoNation: The WyoNation Football Player of the Month. Each month the WyoNation staff will take a vote and we will award the player of the month award to the most deserving Poke for his on the gridiron performance. The month of September for the 2017 season was a unique month as there were five games to take into consideration: Iowa. Gardner-Webb, Oregon, Hawai’i and Texas State. During these games one player stood out and there can be no better player to award this initial honor to.

The Cowboys have been led by their defense so far and at this point everything starts with the do-everything safety, Andrew Wingard. Through the first five games he has filled up just about every category on the stat sheet as you can see above. Wingard has one Mountain West defensive player of the week award under his belt for his performance against the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors. He’s second on the team in tackles with 42 and has been his normal disruptive self throughout this season. Congrats to Andrew Wingard for winning this initial WyoNation honor.

The results of the vote were as follows:

  1. S Andrew Wingard
  2. LB Logan Wilson
  3. CB Tyler Hall
  4. DL Youhanna Ghaifan
  5. WR Austin Conway
