The Wyoming Cowboys will take on the Nevada Wolf pack at 6pm MT in Vegas tonight in the dreaded “pig tail” game of the Mountain West basketball tournament. The Las Vegas betting houses have Wyoming at +2,500 to win the tournament this weekend, which means the Cowboys have next to little chance to win three straight games and be crowned champions. Excuse me if this sounds bad but I’ve known the season has been over since we first heard news that Luke Martinez decided to go into “Street Fighter” mode outside the Buckhorn earning him a suspension, a broken hand and possibly jail time. Right now Wyoming is a wounded animal on the side of the road after being ran over by an F-250. I know I’m in the minority but I would be glad to see the season come to an end tonight.

This season started with as much promise as any season in the history of Wyoming basketball but due to injuries, illness, suspension and lack of depth, the bottom has fallen out. It’s probably best for all concerned that the season comes to an end tonight so we can lick our wounds and prepare for next season. I still have full faith in Larry Shyatt but we have a long way to go before we can compete with the best in a Mountain West conference that is now among the elite basketball conferences in the nation. The conference will ultimately be judged on how well member schools do in the big dance so I will be rooting for our conference brethren to do well. This will help cement the reputation of the conference and benefit Wyoming in the future when Shyatt has the talent and experience on the roster I know he will build. Our time will come, it just isn’t right now and I want the pain to end.

Feel free to fire away at me!
