The Cowboy wrestlers are continuing their dominance on the mat in a big way. The Cowboys opened their Western Wrestling Conference opener against Utah Valley State in Orem, Utah. The Cowboys got the dual started with a win from Jimmy Belleville, the continued winning with a decision from currently undefeated #6 Shane Onufer. The Pokes suffered a loss from Patrick Martinez, but got back on track with a pin from Joe LeBlanc. LeBlanc now has six pins on the year and is currently ranked #5 by Intermat. Both Michael Martinez and Tyler Cox suffered losses to ranked opponents, but  ended the dual with a win from Cole Dallaserra. The Pokes are 7-4 on the dual season, 1-0 in conference. They will next face the xDSU schools next weekend as they take on South Dakota State Friday night, and North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.

The Wyoming Cowgirls continued their winning ways this past week by notching two wins. The Cowgirls on Wednesday night faced the Seattle Redhawks in Laramie in a non-conference matchup. The Cowgirls dominated from the get-go and beat the Redhawks 70-51. Three Cowgirls finished in double digit scoring, including Hilary Carlson who dumped in 20 points, Aubrey Vandiver who added 15, and Chaundra Sewell who added 11. The Cowgirls followed up that performance with a 42 point win over Air Force on Saturday where the Cowgirls had 9 of 10 players get into the scoring. Carlson had 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks, followed by Jade Kennedy who had 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Chaundra Sewell adding 13 points. The Cowgirls shot 60% from the field and 70% from the charity stripe. This week the Cowgirls will be at UNLV and at home vs. San Diego State.

The Cowboy basketball team continued to struggle. This week they fell to Air Force 72-51 in Colorado Springs. The Pokes are dealing with injuries. Afam Moujeke has been lost for the season, as he was not able to completely recover from knee surgery this past offseason. The Cowboys were led in scoring by Amath M’Baye who had 13 points, and Paco Cruz added another 10. The Cowboys were 4 of 23 from 3 point land. The Cowboys will next take on UNLV at home, then at San Diego State this weekend.

The Pokes football team picked up their 23rd recruit today as they got a verbal from Kevin Robertson, a 6’4″ WR from Houston, Texas. The Pokes are closing in on the end of the recruiting season. Keep an eye on the forum with the latest on the recruits coming in.
